The latest trend in the world of cocktails is called “mixology”: a new way of mixing drinks with refinement and a certain magic. It is no coincidence that the “Mixologist” manages to capture the attention of those who are anxiously awaiting his preparations. Slow and measured gestures worthy of a third millennium alchemist, almost always accompanied by elegant and fascinating explanations on how to savor the proposed drink, have replaced the spectacular movements and the quick and acrobatic moves typical of flair barmen, those who throw mixers in the air, pass bottles behind their backs and prepare ten drinks simultaneously. We can say that mixology represents for the world of drinks what gourmet cuisine represents for that of food: it is a refined and, if we want, serious practice, which aims to recreate a unique and all-encompassing tasting experience that involves everyone. the senses of those who drink a cocktail. Is exactly the best mixologists and the best Italian cocktail bars will be selected by WineHunter Helmuth Köcher and Fabio Di Pietro, co-founder of 5 Hats with the brand The Whynery Journal, to be protagonists of a new national competition at the “Merano WineFestival”, which returns , in Merano, from 5 to 9 November.
After the “Creative Contest Cocktail & Drink” wanted by Köcher and 5 Hats in the preview of the Merano WineFestival “Natura et Purae”, in recent days in Merano, the major talents of Italian mixology will also compete on the occasion of the “mother event” signed by WineHunter, with a scouting of professionals among the producers present for the creation of their own recipe and the use of the wine ingredient in mixology. Two categories in which mixologists will compete in Merano: the cocktail (a recipe above 22 degrees alcohol) and the drink (this time below 22 degrees alcohol).
Italian clubs can apply to be selected and start the first part of the competition, that is the one that will see the great social challenge to test the strength of the local community and the technical skills of the professionals. At the end of the second part of the competition, the one that will be held live in Merano at the “WineFestival”, the best selected will enter a new “Guide to the best mixology venues in Italy” by Köcher and Di Pietro, obtaining the “WineHunter Globe”. Those selected to participate will win the “WineHunter Globe Red” as representatives of entrepreneurial and technical excellence and will be able to compete for the coveted “WineHunter Platinum”.
