What would everyday life be without technology? Difficult to say, because now there is no activity that does not include the help of a device, an app or the latest tech gimmick. It starts as soon as you wake up, with coffee machines that we can turn on and manage directly from the smartphone, without even getting out of bed. To accompany breakfast, the latest news, on TV or on the tablet, with the Apps of the major newspapers and blogs that provide us with a large press review. And then running to work, by car, in the middle of a fuel stop, paying without even getting off, and returning to change the radio station with voice commands. We have not yet arrived in the office (or in the cellar) that we have already realized how, without technology, one cannot really stay anymore. Not even among the rows, where viticulture 4.0 has become the extra weapon to allow winegrowers to manage the plants optimally, remotely, without leaving the cellar.

In fact, dozens of Apps are dedicated to the world of wine, especially on the consumer front, covering every aspect: purchase, tasting, information, criticism and so on. The latest addition is “Yes We Wine”, launched for some time, but only now become an all-round tool, with which wine lovers and professionals in the sector can share their tasting notes, but also organize private tastings (in person or remotely), lead a masterclass from home and create and consolidate contacts between companies and consumers. An innovative tool particularly useful for producers, organizers of events related to wine, importers and associations of winemakers, which allows you to analyze the data relating to the tasting of your products or wines with which you work in every corner of the world, so as to have a complete picture of market trends.

However, wine is also – if not above all – experience, lived experience, discovery. And it is precisely to wine tourists that more and more technological innovations are dedicated. Starting from “Enonautilus”, Alexa skill that allows to simplify and digitize the work of welcoming producers, at the service of wine tourists, who will only need a voice command to discover wine and the most suitable territories. On the business front, the skill developed by the Italian-American Vanilla Innovations will allow to digitize and simplify the work of wineries, allowing the management and centralization of a series of activities related to the reception in the cellar and marketing such as booking experiences, checking -in the visitors, the creation of newsletters, the sending of SMS and WhatsApp messages to loyal customers and customers, but also to monitor the progress of receipts and the status of payments.

Not the only one of Alexa’s skills dedicated to wine, which can also count on “Perfect Wine”, which guides the consumer, in a simple and intuitive way, in choosing the best bottle to buy, based on the occasion and the pairing. gastronomic. To get advice from Alexa just say “Alexa, open Perfect Wine”, and then let yourself be guided by filtering the options according to your preferences, such as a special occasion, a romantic evening, an aperitif with friends, a business dinner, but also based on price and food pairing, until you find the ideal wine to buy, obviously without moving from the sofa.

Speaking of territory and wine tourism, in the world of apps there are two to report and download on your smartphone. The first is signed by Banfi, a leading company in the Brunello di Montalcino area, which launched its “Banfi Experience”, usable via smartphone or with a simple 3D viewer, which allows you to “visit” vineyards and cellars even from home, in a virtual way, or to enrich the direct experience between the rows surmounted by the historic Castle of Poggio alle Mura with the tools of “augmented reality”. In another territory that symbolizes the viticulture of the Belpaese, that of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, there is instead “Tabui” which, again through augmented reality, allows you to view information on what you are framing on the screen of your smartphone: points of interest, countries, routes or other information, from art to culture, from food and wine to sport.

Remaining in the ecosystem of apps, the queen, the most popular and downloaded, but also one of the longest-lived is “Vivino”. It does not need great introductions: it is the most downloaded wine app (over 50 million downloads) and, by photographing any wine label (in all there are 13 million labels in the archive, from 213,000 wineries in every corner of the globe), it returns all kinds of information, uploaded by millions of users around the world, including the opinions of those who have taken the trouble to write a small review. A guide to tasting and buying, based, a bit like TripAdvisor, on the opinion of users, and through which to buy the chosen bottle directly.

The “Wine-Searcher” app, the largest online database dedicated to wine, works in a similar way, where you can find information on new and old vintages and, above all, the possibility to buy any bottle in any corner of the world you are. “Wine-Searcher”, in fact, compares and systemizes the prices of hundreds of online wine shops, to choose from, being guided not only by the opinion of wine lovers, but also by the judgment of international wine critics, from Robert Parker to Antonio Galloni (Vinous), from Wine Spectator to Wine Enthusiast, from Jeannie Cho Lee to Jancis Robinson to Tim Atkin.

The most important aspects for wine lovers, as it is easy to imagine, are the purchase and home delivery, so it is not surprising that among the most downloaded apps in Italy there are “Winelivery”, which delivers wine, beer and drinks to your home in the main cities of Italy in 30 minutes. But also “Tannic “, the largest online wine shop in Italy, and which aims at internationalization starting from France, where you can choose from 13,000 different labels from 2,500 wineries. In the Android environment, the “Bernabei ” (also available on iOS), a historic Roman wine shop that has focused heavily on online in recent years, and of “Vinicum “, the online wine shop of the Italian Wines Group (Giv).

From amateurs to wine professionals, for those who see in a bottle not only a form of pleasure, but also (if not above all) an investment, there are apps like “Vindome”, which allows you to invest, without intermediaries, in a very rich selection of labels, starting from a hundred euros up to thousands of euros per box, bringing together producers, investors and consumers on the rich market of collectible wines, between long-term investments and buying and selling. Among the many opportunities, also that of buying the great wines of Bordeaux en primeur. At the service of companies, more than wine lovers, is “Vinitaly Plus”, the digital App of Vinitaly, with 15,000 wines just a click away in 10 languages and wineries from 35 countries, a direct and business matching tool for national and international operators, buyers and press.

At the management level, to report, for Aplle, “My cellar”, where to classify the wines, divide them by producer, country, region, year, type and more, with the ability to view statistics and graphs, but also import and export a backup database. Same possibilities offered by “Wine Cellar Database “ which, however, is only in English. The guides also have their own audience, as demonstrated by the thousands of downloads of “Bibenda” 2021, the guide of the Italian Sommelier Foundation (Fis), but also of the L’Espresso guide “I Vini d’Italia” 2021, or of ” Vini Buoni d’Italia ”of the Italian Touring Club and of“ Vitae ”2021, the guide signed by the Ais – Italian Sommelier Association.

There is also space for those who want to learn and have fun, perhaps with the “Wset Wine Game” app, the official game of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust to test their knowledge, but also to discover curiosities and interesting information about the world of wine. As well as for those who simply want to enjoy a good glass of wine while listening to some music, with “Wine Listening “, the app that combines, through the photo of the label, the right song for each wine, fishing between 2.5 million bottles and 4 million songs in the database.
