Nik is a young radio speaker, and every evening he talks about food and wine in the show he hosts on an important national radio station. But the days of the first free radios are long gone, as were the words and music they spread, while today it is also the commercial logic that “resonates”. A bit like wine: some wines are like the musical hits of the moment, others are not, it is a matter of label, record or wine. And one day Nik decides to say it into the microphone. It is the story of “The neck of the bottle: Stories of lives”, the first novel by Tinto (Nicola Prudente), the historic voice of “Decanter” on RaiRadio2, in chapters and songs, from “Come As You Are” by Nirvana to ” Red red wine ”by UB40, so much so that it also forms an original playlist that can be listened to on Instagram.
The special episode in which the “alter ego” of the author, radio and TV presenter, on La7 with “Mica pizza e fichi” and author of volumes dedicated to food and wine and his knowledge, gives vent the story of two worlds like music and wine that produce emotions first of all, revolves around the incredible story made of intrigues, passions, mysteries and secret loves, of Carmine and Antonio Manocchio, two winemaking brothers, an elementary school teacher and an employee of the Municipality, in the background of Frattocchie, a hamlet of Marino, 20 km from Rome, and whose dream is thwarted by Don Capitone, a local mafioso. A story that begins with the meeting between Antonio and Blanche, a Franco-Algerian supermodel, young and beautiful, with whom he shares a passion for wine just as Italy does with France. To help the two brothers against those who hinder them, poor earnings and an opposing family, the girl reveals her secret to them, an ancient formula to make their wine special. We are in the seventies, and their labels thus begin to make themselves known, even across the border, up to the French tables. The secret? It’s time for the commercial: the advertising of a canned wine so loved abroad. End of the broadcast, and with a phone call from the management, will it all be over for Nik too? But now he is happy to go home and uncork that excellent wine that has been stored for a long time in the cellar.
On the notes of “Another brick in the wall” by Pink Floyd and “Imagine” by John Lennon, from “The sound of silence” by Simon & Garfunkel to “Bad” by Michael Jackson, from “Bohemian Rapsody” by Queen to “Rebel Rebel “by David Bowie, via U2’s” Sunday Bloody Sunday “, Tinto writes in the prologue of the novel (Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, March 2021, pp. 207, in print and digital version, cover price 11.71 euros): “do you know a winery? That of the house where we have a thousand odds and ends. This story was right there, closed in a bottle of wine. It has slowly refined with the experiences of recent years. Thanks to the free time of the 2020 quarantine, I did nothing but notice this rare bottle, take it, clean it from the dust of the hectic everyday life and finally uncork it with care. Radio is like wine, imagination. Both never go into lockdown. You can go anywhere with a sip of music and words ”.
