“A few years ago we bought a land bordering our vineyard. And after the various works to connect it, we planted a new vineyard. In 2020 the first harvest: despite a fairly complex vintage, the Nebbioli were beautiful. So we decided to produce a new wine, a Nebbiolo precisely. And when the time came to baptize it, it was only a moment to decide to dedicate it to Gianni Mura, a very dear friend who died suddenly last year, precisely in 2020 ”. Thus was born, in the story of the same producers Maria Bianucci and Gigi Garanzini, “suiveur”, the Langhe Nebbiolo Doc dedicated to the unforgettable journalist and writer, “king of” suiveurs “, Gianni Mura, from friends and fellow journalists, vigneron for passion in the Langhe with Bricco Giubellini. A pure Nebbiolo vintage 2020, produced, for the first time, in 1,040 bottles, released on 9 October (“and every next vintage will continue to be released on 9 October, the day of Gianni’s birth”).
“We were friends, he had been our wedding witness, but we were also grateful to him: with his wife Paola he wrote the first review of our wines in 2006 – explain the producers – he had accompanied us in a world that was not exactly unknown to us at the time, but almost. He was still a little surprised by our decision to leave Milan for a pot in the countryside, but he was also pleased to have an outpost in the Langhe, a territory in constant movement “. An “outpost”, Bricco Giubellini, born from the passion for wine and the dream of a possible elsewhere, at the beginning of the 2000s in Monforte d’Alba, on the highest hill in the country, surrounded by the vineyards of one of the territories of the heart by Gianni Mura.
And “suiveur” is truly a “wine of friendship” (a term that, exceptionally in this case, might have suited Mura, immune to journalistic affectation and quirks, but “surly” sincere as no one), and like the others wines – a Barolo, of course, and an assembly of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Merlot called “Eresia”, dedicated in the 2003 vintage to the memory of Gino Veronelli, “heretic par excellence, who had time to taste it from the barrel and baptize it with affectionate accents and flattering “, for a production of 5,000 bottles in just over one hectare – it is vinified by the Conterno Fantino company (Bricco Giubellini, finds in his technical guide two prominent names of the Langhe wine scene: the agronomist Claudio Conterno and the oenologist Fabio Fantino, ed), united with Bricco Giubellini and Gianni Mura himself, also by another passion, that for the “Barolo Boys”, the football team from Monforte. The label was designed by Antonella Frate of ArteVino Studio and is printed on cotton paper, with a bike and the words “Dedicated to Gianni Mura, to glasses, matches, nights, to his douce France, illuminated by the Tour” written as if his Olivetti Lettera 32 had done so.
Walls that, “correspondent” of our most authentic passions, behind his beloved typewriter, taught us and continues to teach us “to follow them” first of all for the pleasure of doing it, such as sport, cycling and the Tour, football and the exploits of the most beloved champions, and, of course, good food, which cannot be described as such without a great wine.
