The Italy of wine loses one of its great pioneers, Franciacorta, one of the most important areas of Italian sparkling wine, its “founding father”. In the days when the world toasts, also thanks to the Lombard bubbles born from his inventiveness and genius, Franco Ziliani, pioneer and creator of Franciacorta, founder of Guido Berlucchi and considered one of the “fathers” of modern Italian enology, passed away . In the year that celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of the first bottle of Franciacorta he created, “the ninety-year-old entrepreneur who revolutionized the fate of an entire wine region, creating modern Franciacorta wines and thus giving a new destiny to the territory of the hills around Lake Iseo ”, underlines a note from the company, now led by the brothers Cristina, Paolo and Arturo Ziliani.
Determined oenologist and volcanic entrepreneur, Franco Ziliani lived his life realizing the dream of creating quality Italian sparkling wines, which could be at the level of the great French tradition. So it was that in 1955, a young enologist called by Count Guido Berlucchi to Palazzo Lana in Borgonato to solve problems of stability of the wines produced on the estate, proposed the revolutionary idea of ​​”making sparkling” those wines, which did not show sufficient “personality”. Many attempts later, finally in 1961 the first 3,300 bottles of “Pinot di Franciacorta” were born, the “germ” of what would later become one of the most important “new” Italian quality wine territories and of today’s success of Franciacorta Docg. . Franco Ziliani leaves Franciacorta to his producer friends, to all the employees who have supported him in life and to his children Cristina, Arturo and Paolo Ziliani.
