Lamberto Frescobaldi is the new president of Unione Utaliana Vini (Uiv), as anticipated in recent days by WineNews. Elected unanimously, today, in Rome, by the Council in the general assembly of the main association of the sector, the president of Marchesi Frescobaldi, one of the most important and long-lived realities of Italian wine, succeeds Ernesto Abbona (Marchesi di Barolo) and will be flanked by vice-presidents Chiara Lungarotti (sole director of Cantine Lungarotti) and Sandro Sartor (ad Ruffino Group and Emea region of Constellation Brands).
“Among the priorities of the next mandate – said Lamberto Frescobaldi – there is certainly that of giving continuity to the activity of my predecessors, who made Unione Italiana Vini an organization capable of involving and organically representing all the components of the supply chain productive. Lamberto Frescobaldi, from Florence, represents the thirtieth generation of the family’s winemakers. Graduated in viticulture at the University of Davis, California, he leads a company – the Marchesi Frescobaldi – of 1,500 hectares of vineyards divided into the various estates in Tuscany and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Unione Italiana Vini (Uiv), which appointed the new board, now has 730 members representing more than 150,000 winegrowers and over 85% of the Italian wine turnover. The organization, active since 1895, is now made up of about one hundred employees in Rome, Milan and Verona.
