With our Food Stories behind bars we are in Salerno.

“Good pizza inside and out”, this is the social pizzeria in prison.

“The good pizza inside and out” is the slogan that accompanies the initiative presented last week to the Municipality of Salerno: it involves the construction of a social pizzeria inside the Fuorni prison.

A reintegration program for inmates that sees the Salerno prison as the protagonist, together with the Department of Social Policies of the Municipality of Salerno, the Casamica Foundation and the Salernitana Community Foundation.

“It is a project that I really care about because it gives prisoners the opportunity to nourish hope and to give the sense of re-education which is the true meaning of punishment”

said the director of the Salerno prison, Stefano Martone on the sidelines of the signing of the memorandum of understanding between all partners.

The inmates will be actively involved in all phases of the project:

  • in realization of the room, already identified inside the prison, and in which the pizzeria will be built.
  • in training, to acquire the title of pizza chef, which will be spent once back in freedom.

There will also be the possibility of delivering pizza to inmates who have bought it at controlled prices, in order to gain experience and also give a different meal alternative.

The director continues:

“This project idea must be a harbinger of work, treatment opportunities, training opportunities and certificates that can also be spent outside”.
